A Warm Welcome and Tour of the Facilities

We were kindly welcomed by Cheryl, who gave us a heartfelt tour of the facilities. From the outset, it was clear just how much love, care, and compassion goes into everything that Zoe’s Place offers. The hospice provides a peaceful, comforting space for families, featuring areas such as The Hive, a welcoming room where teas, coffees, and cakes are served. It also doubles up as a beautiful event space.

Another key feature is the Memorial Garden, a serene outdoor area designed for families who have sadly lost a child, providing them a quiet place to reflect and remember.

Lending a Helping Hand

With summer in full swing, the garden needed some attention. Over time, the trees and bushes had grown significantly, covering some of the memorials. Our volunteer Jan, an experienced gardener, led the way in helping us to understand how to care for the various plants so they can thrive and regrow beautifully.

The team worked together to:

  • Tidy up and reshape trees and bushes
  • Trim overgrown areas around memorials
  • Refresh and replant the troth planters

The difference between the garden before and after our visit was striking. Most importantly, the memorials are now visible and the space feels calm and open.

“I wanted to say, from the bottom of our hearts a massive thank you to both of you for all your hard work in transforming our memorial garden from an overgrown jungle, to a beautiful garden. Not only did you brave the elements, but you did so with big smiles.”

Supporting What Matters

Zoe’s Place relies heavily on fundraising and donations to continue its vital work. By having volunteers support with practical tasks like gardening and light renovation, the hospice can focus its resources on essential needs such as medication and equipment.

A Day to Remember

It was a truly emotional and rewarding day. We are incredibly grateful to Cheryl and the team for showing us around and allowing us to contribute in a small but meaningful way. Zoe’s Place is a special organisation, and we’re proud to support their mission in any way we can.

“It was a pleasure to be able to give even a little time to help tidy the garden. Being able to care for an area that means so much to the families Zoe’s Place supports made it so worthwhile. Cheryl was lovely, and it was a privilege to be shown around the hospice to get a sense of the incredible work they do. Meeting Jan, our operative, was the best, and I am in awe of her amazing gardening knowledge!"
