With a professional background in prop making and set design, Elizabeth was looking for a role that could accommodate her creative pursuits while providing a steady and flexible income.
As someone juggling family life and maintaining her own home, she needed a job that allowed her to balance these responsibilities without sacrificing the rewarding sense of contributing to a team.
When Elizabeth joined TIB Services, the flexibility of the working hours immediately stood out. This unique benefit allowed her to fit work around her commitments while continuing her creative projects.
"It allowed me to do my own work with making and looking after my own house and family, so the flexibility of it was definitely a factor in joining TIB,” she explains.
Beyond the hours, the welcoming nature of the schools she worked with made the experience even more rewarding. "I've worked in several schools and they've all been really welcoming — they've made me feel like part of the team and included me in their social events that they've organised," Elizabeth says.
Elizabeth discovered that her skills in prop making and set design translated seamlessly into the role of a school caretaker.
"For a good site manager or caretaker you definitely have to have good organisational skills, you need to think on your feet, you need to problem solve," she explains. For anyone with experience in DIY, outdoor maintenance, or home improvement, this role offers a chance to put those skills to great use.
Elizabeth also emphasises the inclusive nature of the role and encourages other women to consider it. "Females can do the role just as well as men," she notes. "If you have those transferable skills, there's no reason to say why this role wouldn't be perfect for you. If you're good at DIY, you like taking care of gardens and outside maintenance, then this is a great role for females.”
