Overcoming boredom in retirement
Ted’s career began in construction, where he honed his skills as a joiner and gained the reputation of a “multi-trader” for his versatility across various trades. But at the start of lockdown, Ted’s routine shifted dramatically.
As a maintenance joiner, his work had relied on accessing homes, but restrictions made this impossible. He decided to retire, but this brought unexpected boredom, and Ted’s natural desire to help others left him searching for a new purpose.
Starting a new rewarding journey

“I came across TIB simply by chance,” Ted recalls, “and I was interested in helping out in schools, simply because that is my nature. I like helping people.”
Ted’s role as a school caretaker allowed him to apply his multi-trade background in meaningful ways. “The beauty of working for TIB is that schools always need somebody with an ability to do more than just clean the bins or clean the floors,” he explains.
