Rooted in Care: Volunteering at Zoe’s Place

A Special Place with a Powerful Mission
We were kindly welcomed by Cheryl, who gave us a heartfelt tour of the facilities. From the outset, it was clear just how much love, care, and compassion goes into everything that Zoe’s Place offers. The hospice provides a peaceful, comforting space for families, featuring areas such as The Hive, a welcoming room where teas, coffees, and cakes are served which doubles up as a beautiful event space. We also spent time in the Memorial Garden, a peaceful area where families can come to reflect and remember children who have sadly passed away.
Rolling Up Our Sleeves
Over time, the garden had become overgrown, with trees and shrubs beginning to cover some of the memorial features. Our volunteer Jan, an experienced gardener, led the way in helping us to understand how to care for the various plants to ensure they thrive and regrow beautifully.
The team worked together to:
- Tidy up and reshape trees and bushes
- Trim overgrown areas around memorials
- Refresh and replant the troth planters
The difference between the garden before and after our visit was striking. Most importantly, the memorials are now visible and the space feels calm and open.
“I wanted to say, from the bottom of our hearts a massive thank you to both of you for all your hard work in transforming our memorial garden from an overgrown jungle, to a beautiful garden. Not only did you brave the elements, but you did so with big smiles.”
Why it Matters
When we launched our volunteering initiative in 2024, we set out to provide our operatives with an additional opportunity to create a positive impact within their local communities. While our day-to-day work focuses on keeping schools running smoothly, opportunities like these allow our team to use their skills to give back and share experiences.
By helping with gardening, repairs, or small renovations, we allow organisations like Zoe’s Place to spend their limited funds on essentials, such as fuel to reach families in need.
“It was a pleasure to be able to give even a little time to help tidy the garden. Being able to care for an area that means so much to the families Zoe’s Place supports made it so worthwhile. Cheryl was lovely, and it was a privilege to be shown around the hospice to get a sense of the incredible work they do. Meeting Jan, our operative, was the best, and I am in awe of her amazing gardening knowledge!”
Working with Purpose
If you’re someone who takes pride in your work and wants to use your practical skills for something more, TIB Services could be the perfect fit. Whether it’s fixing a leaking tap at a school or helping renovate a hospice, our caretakers play a valuable role in both education and the wider community.
We don’t just hire for skills, we look for people with heart.
